OTHERWORLDLY: Sci-Fi & Fantasy EVENT OPENING FOR ART EXHIBIT

Decatur Area Arts Council invites the public to attend a SCI-FI & FANTASY EXTRAVAGANZA on Friday, September 2 from 5-7:30 pm at the Madden Arts Center, 125 N. Water St. in downtown Decatur.  The family-friendly event opens a new exhibit, entitled OTHERWORLDLY: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, on display in the Anne Lloyd Gallery throughout the month of September.  Folks are encouraged to come wearing their favorite sci-fi or fantasy character costume (or accessory) and enter the costume contest to be held at 6:30 pm.  The event also includes the following:

  • Interactive green screen experience by Heroic Age Studios
  • Fantasy art-making for all ages
  • Featured artist demos by Lucas Durham and Brent Chumley
  • Fantasy face painting by Wyatt Burton
  • Magic, The Gathering display by Board Knight
  • Collectibles display by Geeking Out Comics
  • Arcadia Quest game demo by Scott Rueter
  • Classic Sci-Fi movie showing

The exhibit highlights twelve artists from several states:  Melanie Adcock, Mitchell Bentley, Brent Chumley, Dina Cimarusti, Lucas Durham, Aaron Miller, Scott Mitchell, David Lee Pancake, Chris Peuler, Keith Russell, Bryan Sperry and Ray VanTilburg.  The otherworldly art includes paintings and drawings, digital art, sculptures, masks and costume headpieces.  Two of the artists whose masks and sculptures are on exhibit – Cimarusti and Mitchell – were featured on the SyFy Channel’s Face Off show.   Exhibit dates are September 2-28.  The gallery is open M-F 8:30-4:30 and Saturdays, 10-2.
