“Pulp Painting Landscapes: The Handmade Paper Process by Terry Lacy” at Anne Lloyd Gallery

August 20th, 2019

The Decatur Area Arts Council presents an art exhibit entitled Pulp Painting Landscapes: The Handmade Paper Process by Terry Lacy” from September 5-30 in the Anne Lloyd Gallery at the Madden Arts Center, 125 N. Water St. in downtown Decatur.  The exhibit features the art of Indiana artist, Terry Lacy, who “paints” with an unusual medium – pigmented pulp. Using cotton fibers suspended in water (pulp), he adds the color pigments and manipulates the pulp to create the image, sometimes imbedding flat items, embossing, or contouring edges to follow the landscape forms.  Each painting is one-of-a-kind with rich colors and a unique, bold design aesthetic.  For over 30 years, Lacy has been perfecting his technique of this centuries-old hand papermaking process.

Lacy earned his BFA degree from Herron School of Art and his MFA from Indiana University.  After teaching graphic design at Purdue University for eight years, he and his wife created Lacy Design, a company that combines traditional print media, illustration, fine art and hand papermaking.  He has exhibited widely and works on commission.

An opening reception, free to the public, will be held on Friday, September 6 from 5-7:30 pm during the First Friday Gallery Walk.  Lacy will demonstrate his papermaking process outside the Madden Arts Center at 6 pm.  Live Americana and folk music will be provided by The Red Wheelbarrows.

Four other downtown art galleries will be open during the September Gallery Walk, featuring the following:

  • ARTS on 3rd, third floor Madden Arts Center:  Jim Powell, paintings and artist demo
