February 2023: Storytellers: A Celebration of Black Artists

This exhibit will feature a collection of 2D “stories” about the Black experience from an artist’s perspective. Each of the artists in this group exhibit has a connection with the Central Illinois region. Each will address their experience or the experience of others through their preferred mediums in this unique display. The exhibit is co-curated by DAAC’s Jami Fawley and Decatur artist Antonio L. Burton, aka Toni Picasso. Each artwork will be displayed alongside its story in written form.
First Friday Gallery Walk - Friday, February 3, 2023, 5-7 pm

- Live music featuring Tebe Zalango on violin
- Complimentary refreshments
- 6pm presentation by Oba William King (member of the National Association of Black Storytellers), featuring drummer Mark Vaughn
- Community Drum Circle led by Kaream Williams will follow the presentation. Bring your drum! - Blue Connection will feature Millikin University Student artwork
- Gallery 510 will feature the artwork of Grace Snively
Mid-Day Music-Black Classical Composers
Wednesday, February 22, 12:15 - 12:45 pm, featuring a lecture-demonstration with Illinois Symphony Orchestra violinist Chenoa Murphy.
Available for school and community groups of all ages – Includes a guided tour through the gallery exhibit and a related art project in the studio with an instructor. By appointment during gallery hours Monday-Friday. Ask about available scholarships!
